Royal Automobile Club of Queensland
The Royal Automobile Club of Queensland Limited, which is a member of the Australian Automobile Association is a motoring club. This organisation assists its Queensland members with roadside breakdowns, offers insurance of several types, and provides financial services and travel agent services.
The insurance section, RACQ Insurance, is among the largest providers of car and home insurance in Queensland.
In 1905, twelve motorists started the Automobile Club of Queensland. They held this meeting at the School of Arts at Ann Street. In 1921, the club received a Royal Charter. In the manner of the Royal Automobile Club of the United Kingdom, the RACQ was an advocacy group.
The foundation members consisted of local automobile owners. Many of them were medical professionals, who believed that cars were a reliable way for them to see their patients.
